Botox
Botox is a protein
toxin produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. The injections
relax the muscles that create wrinkles. After an injection, for
example, you are no longer able to frown, so those lines made by
frowning are eliminated. Only certain facial muscles, like the ones
that form frown lines, laugh lines and crow's feet, are treated
so that the normal facial expression is unaffected.
A treatment requires
only a small amount of liquid to be used. There is minimal pain,
the entire procedure only takes about ten minutes, and it usually
last three to six months. After that you may return for a follow-up
injection.
Although it is a
toxin, Botox has been safely used for wrinkle therapy since the early
1990's with no documented serious side effects . Botox can be used
by almost anyone, but patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or
who have a neurologic disease should not use it.
